When Laurie came to me she needed someone to design a website for her most important client, Dr. Timothy Johnson of Norge Dental Center. An all to familiar scenario I hear, the web developer she hired wasn’t capable of both developing and designing a website in a timely manner or one that meet the standards of her client.

TIm wanted a website that provided a wealth of information about his services in a concise and easy to navigate format. So with that in mind, I set out to create a clean refreshing design that placed the majority of his services, location and contact information on the front page. Allowing customers to easily access his website and find the information they where looking for.

Fulfilltopia

Eric needed a website that marketed his eCommerce fulfillment services to entrepreneurs & startups. He also wanted a website that would be easy enough for him to update when needed without having to always rely on someone else.

MK3Y put his vision into action to craft an easy to navigate website that put his message infront of his audience using WordPress at its core.

We sat down with Eric and did a brain-storming session to help him figure out what the vision for his website would be, and what information he wanted to present to his clients when they arrived at the site. Once we got that done, we started to design and develop the site to what it is today.

The next step:

Sometimes plans don’t always pan out. With the help of Google Analytics and plenty of testing, we’ve noticed folks who come to the website aren’t taking the action Eric wanted.

I had just finished reading the book “REWORK” by the 37Signals founders and determined that some of the problems with the current website lay in the redundancy of information being provided. Some of it is confusing. Also, it’s not 100% clear just what action the customer should be taking when the come to the website.

With these things in mind, I’ve been working on developing a new strategy and improved version 2.0 of Fulfilltopia. One that cues the visitor to get a quote from the start and explains what Fulfilltopia is simply and easily to understand the moment the user arrives at the website.

This is just a MOCK UP, not a final product. To help LEVEL things up, I’ve recommended Eric hire a COPY WRITER, which can really help improve the quality of your targeted landing page. Just to summarize, we’ve decided to ditch the sliders in favor of a simple quick explanation of the service with a large and clear call to action. If the user wants more detail they’ll find it as they scroll further down the page with additional calls to action. Or they can go further in the site for more information. Notice I’ve also narrowed the navigation as well.

Scott Taylor for Congress

One of our earlier projects. Scott Taylor was running for Congress in the 2nd District of Virginia when his webmaster vanished on him. In a bind, his social media manager Will Sokolowski contacted me on a Friday evening. They needed a simple, powerful WordPress website built by the following Monday that made Scott look like a real legitimate candidate and not just another small fry.

Let’s face it, in today’s political arena APPEARANCE counts. So I went to 7/11 filled up my big gulp with Mt. Dew and went to work for two days straight. The end result, a simple blog that helped put Scott Taylor in the media. Soon Scott was doing interviews with Fox News and getting plenty of press attention.

Thanks to this project, we eventually helped Scott Rigell by building a Facebook landing page for him. And we helped out a friend of Scott’s, Todd Rojcewicz with his campaign website.

Since the campaign is now over, Scott decided to change his blog header to simply, Scott Taylor. But I thought I’d include a picture of the original header image.

Tidewater Tactical

Tidewater Tactical’s old site left much to be desired. It served it’s purpose for awhile, but when the company decided they wanted to be able to sell their products online they needed a new website and solution to do so.

To quote Ray at Tidewater Tactical, they where looking for a “Kick Ass and edgy website” so they could sell and distribute gear online. They where also looking for a website that they could maintain in house without always needing to rely on a third party to update or make changes to the website.

With all their needs in mind I first recommend Magento eCommerce as the platform for which I would build their website on.

Why Magento?

It is tough to sell these days – even tougher if you try to do it online. It’s not just the similar businesses and stores in the neighborhood you would suddenly be competing against. Comic Booked

I developed a relationship with Will after working with him on both Scott Taylor‘s and Scott Rigell‘s campaigns. Will approached me about working on a personal project he had. That idea was something he was very proud of and passionate about. Will wanted to create a website to connect comic book lovers and create a true online community, and that idea was Comicbooked.com. A website for commentary, reviews and news about the world of Comic Books. And the best part was the community aspect. Will already had found a number of writers for the blog, but we also built a vBulletin forum into the site to allow visitors and regular users of the site to interact with each other.

(BTW, I have 5 yrs experience building vbulletin forums. I used to run a car forum for that length of time before selling it.)

This turned out to be a fun and creative project that let me explore more of the BLOGGING side of WordPress. It also required me to custom code a few special sections of the site that are not normally a part of WordPress. But anytime you’re building a community, it’s a fun and rewarding experince.

Comicbooked continues to grow to this day, with over 1 Million monthly page views and a growing community.

Facebook Landing Pages

Facebook has changed the way we connect with our customers. They also seem to issue redesigns once every 6 months. The landing pages here where all created with the original FBML tab that Facebook Pages used to support.

Currently they’ve switched to an App method, in which you must produce an app and host your files off site. I’ve done this for myself, but haven’t currently done it for any new clients as I have decided that these work better as an addon to a clients website than me producing one by one.

Todd Rojcewicz For Supervisor

I meet Todd after working on Scott Taylors campaign website. Todd is a true underdog. He wanted to run for the office of District Supervisor in his community. But like most under dogs, Todds pockets weren’t lined with tons of cash.

So I came up with a reuse and tweak concept that I offer to anyone who is looking for a simple campaign website. Basically I took the general design format of Scott’s website and tweaked it just enough to use for Todd and was able to build the website for a fraction of the cost I would normally charge to design and develop a site from the ground up.

Sadly, Todd had to withdraw from his campaign when his company decided it wanted to relocate him and his family to another state. Thus this website is no longer online for viewing.
